5 questions you must answer before re-designing your Office

What can you do to increase productivity, staff retention and wellbeing without having to turn your office into Google HQ

If the answer is no, you’re not alone. Approximately 66% of Britain’s workforce feels that their offices are the reason that they’re not attracting the best talent, according to a recent survey

Newer, sleeker, and more technologically efficient offices are all factors in attracting the best and brightest people. However, these offices aren’t always accessible to business owners in terms of cost and space available.

With the right design and careful budgeting there are ways to strike a balance between an ultra-modern office and an outdated workspace. What can you do to increase retention levels and attract the best talent without breaking the bank. Bear these considerations in mind when you’re refitting your office or redefining your workspace.

1. Insight = results –Your office space must work for your business, so use your employees and an expert consultant to get a real understanding of what is and isn’t working. Finding out how to make the most of the space can make a real difference in the way the business operates

2. Flexibility –Everyone has unique needs, desires, and motivations. Introverts and extroverts must work in harmony, and the design / space planning must reflect this. Knowing how your employees operate and interact is essential to creating an environment that accommodates the different cultures within the workforce. Speak to your employees before you re-design the office, and ask them what key improvements would be on their wish list. Some employees may value privacy, so your new design could incorporate more quiet spaces to take calls. While other employees may want a reduction in noise or an increase in natural light. Getting an incite from staff before you redesign is critical in making sure your new space benefits the majority, you will probably never be able to please everyone

3. Technology –Has redefined workplace culture, wireless networking, remote storage and mobile technology should be incorporated into the very fabric of the interior space planning. Questioning traditional office setup / culture is beneficial to develop a seamlessly efficient, linked up and networked space

4. Trust and respect.Flexible workspaces should increase your employees’ productivity and well-being. Management must believe that their employees will work better based on trust and respect. Employees should feel empowered to be able to work from private meeting booths, coffee areas and breakout as well as their workstations

5. Find your style. Stylish interiors appeal to some workers, but they’re not right for every business. Decide whether to focus on clean lines and simplicity, or create something a little more ‘off the wall’ and creative. Whatever you do, be sure to develop a plan layout and to research all your options. This is a great opportunity to enhance your business’ brand. While workspaces of Google and Facebook appear to be leading the way in workplace design and staff wellbeing, the schemes are not for every business even if you had their budgets. Focus on creating the right working environment for your staff and the ethos of your company. Create a bespoke solution that will meet their everyday needs while preparing the office for the future

Case Study Progress 25,000.00 sqft. refurbishment in Leeds for Synergy Architects and QA Systems Ltd

Complete refurbishment of three storey office block in Leeds for Office Interiors Specialist Synergy Architects and clients QA. The company is the UK’s leading IT training provider with offices throughout the UK

The client QA are a long-established IT training company that offers over 1500 IT and project management courses including Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, PRINCE2 and many more. The scope of works included phased demolition and complete re-fit; demolition, partitioning, plaster finishes, Cat 6 cabling, electrical, LED lighting, AV / screens, mechanical, plumbing, flooring, glazed partitions, decoration and graphics

This project was won against stiff competition and is the 2nd fit out for the client QA and hopefully not the last. Select Interiors came a close 2nd for a group re-design / space planning of their HQ in London and are working closely with the winning company Synergy on this project.

Week 1 demolition, complete strip out of all finishes, partitions, glazing, concrete block-work, lighting, electrical and cabling

 

  

  

Week 2 1st fix mechanical, electrical, data, lighting, partitioning and floor prep. The works are phased over 12 weeks with each phase 18 days to demolish and re-fit each floor allowing 5 days for QA to decant staff from next phase into newly refurbished space

 

Case Study Progress

Select Interiors received a call from Xin Jim from OKitchen Restaurant in Didsbury Manchester. Xin wanted a quick re-design, re-brand for the Korean Restaurant on Barlow Moor Road. Carl met Xin, received a brief, sent a summary of Xin’s instructions with survey images the same day with a fee proposal. Xin proceeded with Select Interiors for the interior design.
