Manchesters’ St John’s Quarter Attracts Investments

HQ & Hello House are the renamed and revamped former Granada TVs headquarters. The new Northern Quarter for digital & creative industry starts up in the North West

Sir Howard Bernstein, chief executive of Manchester City Council:

‘Leading the charge north of Watford, London based developers Allied London Estates has acquired a 13.5 acre site sandwiched between Quay St & the River Irwell which includes Granada TVs former headquarters. The area to be dubbed The St John’s Quarter is to be revitalised by Allied London Estates, developers of Spinningfields.  They plan an equally inspiring but alternative addition to what is undoubtedly the UKs second city, Manchester.’

Granada TV’s former offices were vacant and looked a sorry sight 6 months ago. Allied London’s visionary C.E.O. Michael Ingall in conjunction with OBI, Capital Properties & Select Interiors Ltd have transformed the former drab 60s built block into a thriving business community. The redevelopment is now home to larger corporate professionals – HCC & Shoosmiths solicitors, as well as creative & media companies like London Based Architects Levitt Bernstein, Manchester Confidential, Echo P.R. & Rormix.  The reception area has Manchester’s independent Coffee House Caffeine & Co & an art gallery, Artzu

Hello Hub, in the HQ complex, is a drop in space where entrepreneurs, start-ups and companies come together to ‘meet & collaborate’. Serendipitous encounters with like – minded individuals and cross fertilisation of ideas is creating an infectious buzz. The economic, flexible workspaces and business support for established and start-up businesses is revitalising this formerly neglected area of our great city

In Manchester last year there were 12,000 new start-ups, entrepreneurial dynamism flows through the city’s veins.  Manchester was at the forefront in the Industrial revolution and is at the forefront of the new digital economy.  The St Johns district is the next Northern Quarter.

Ian Brown famously quipped ‘the only thing Manchester hasn’t got is a beach’ …watch this space.

Other Projects

Comercial Interior Designers, Select Interiors, were asked to produce design drawings for an office workshop concept & Co-Working space in Leeds Dock. This area is destined to become a vibrant and creative waterside community with links to the city via a water taxi service and a new metro bus service.
