The Malt Vault – Birkdale awarded to Select Interiors Manchester bar & restaurant designers
The area is like a Chelsea by the sea, home of the world famous Royal Birkdale golf course
Client brief: To accommodate commercial kitchen, restaurant & bar space within former bank premises including external seating
The building has is challenges, there was not enough space to accommodate a commercial kitchen. The exiting vault would be too expensive to remove, the space is challenging to heat and ventilate, high ceilings and period bank counters and panelling to be retained and utilised within proposed scheme. Furthermore the building is in a conservation area and the ground / subsoil is sandy and unsuitable for usual pad concrete foundations
Select Interiors have come up with a solution to the challenges by designing a ground floor extension to the rear built on reinforced concrete raft foundation. The extension sensitively clad with Cedar to appease the local planning department and a chic exterior seating area incorporating planting and fabric canopies
