Manchester & The Northern Quarter recognised as growth areas for creative industries see progress Select Interiors new Design Hub & Showroom
Business news: creative industries are growing faster than any other business sector in most of the UK according to new data, with 47 “creative clusters” now scattered across the country – including “less ‘hip'” areas like Slough and Chester
While London is still responsible for 40 per cent of all creative industry jobs and a third of creative businesses, smaller clusters are thriving across the country, according to The Geography of Creativity in the UK report.
“While it is well known that the creative industries are engines of growth in cities like London, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff, their importance in other parts of the UK is less widely appreciated,” says the report, which includes a map of the country’s 47 “creative clusters”.
The map confirms that creative clusters have a dominant presence in London and the south east (which together comprise around a third of clusters identified). But just over one-fifth of clusters are found in the north of England, see Manchester highlighted above

Select Interiors Directors Martha Loraine’s and Carl Brown were invited to an exclusive talk hosted by Restaurant & Bar Design awards founder Marco Rubio at Manchester’s hippest restaurant Tattu. This is the first foray into the business by Adam Jones and with an average 10 week wait to get a booking at weekends it speaks volumes about the quality of food, service and of course the interior.
Designer Edwin Picket and Adam talked about the initial concept which started with the brand Tattu and developed over a five-year period from initial sketches to completion of this stunning and unique Restaurant
Host Marco teased the narrative out of an at times recalcitrant Designer Edwin Picket. Adam Jones provided the perfect counterpoint with a more fluid and incredibly inspiring account of how the brand as starting point dictated the interior design and fit out. The process started with the acquisition of a none-descript secondary location office space shell over-shadowed by the surrounding Residential & Commercial high rise development of Spinningfields and Leftbank. The space was designed to be offices and has the standard uniform of black glass curtain walling, in short a challenge. Adam & Edwin saw the potential despite many pitfalls including no design provision for Restaurant extract systems. The pair developed the concept and started the fit out where most would not dare tread. The intrepid duo have stamped their mark and created an unbelievably eclectic interior with body art referencing from the oversized anchors in reception to the rope ceiling fitted to the main restaurant

We at Select Interiors judge the success of the buildings and places we design by the way people use and enjoy them – the clients who commission them, the people who inhabit them. Good design is about helping clients meet their needs and objectives. It is also about the way people feel when they experience it, a sense of meaning, connection and belonging
