Overview

As specialists in doing cafe interior design and fit out across Manchester and the UK, Select Interiors designed the space over 2 days and sent costs. 1 week later we were on site.

Bespoke elements were produced in our workshop and as the budget was ‘constrained’ we used our experience to ‘hack’ off the shelf products to provide value

Scope of Works

This hospitality design and fit-out combined workshop joinery with off the shelf products. Materials such as oak, ceramics, velvet, linen and a polished concrete floor were selected to reflect the youthful Instagram friendly clientele

Our refurbishment included:

Interior Design

As experienced interior designers and hospitality fit-out specialists, we worked closely with our client throughout the project to deliver a high- quality scheme on time and within budget

The design reflects the brand and youthful demographic. The interior had some interesting legacy finishes from its previous life as a retail shop. Out design team wanted to retain the patina and work with the patina and finishes as part of the aesthetic

We were invited to bring our hospitality interior design expertise to convert the building into a working bakery & cafe. Select Interiors Creators + Makers we are one of the leading hospitality fit-out companies in Manchester, and were humbled and grateful for the opportunity

Overview

Creating a bakery from a pub had a few constraints. There was insufficient power to the premises, and the structural floor to the 1^st floor was not substantial enough to take the imposed structural load of the additional bakery equipment and machinery

Many hospitality interior design projects come with similar challenges to convert spaces with a variety of previous uses, into something functional and beautiful

Scope of Works

The bakery and café conversion and refurbishment involved a full strip-out and reconfiguration of the interior. Our Creators + Makers team managed every stage of the commercial fit-out, including:

Demolition

Mechanical, electrical and HVAC installations
Structured data and lighting systems
Bespoke & general joinery
Decoration throughout with brand-aligned finishes

Interior Design

From the initial brief, our hospitality interior design team approached this project with a focus on functionality with flair and originality. The café was designed for both takeaway, deliveries and for ‘sit in’ customers that want to relax with a craft coffee and some patisserie, a sandwich or light lunch.

The bespoke interior design also reflected the client’s personality and Brazilian culture, incorporating colours, finishes and bespoke murals.

The Fit-Out

Located in the Uber cool Ancoats, this commercial bakery and cafe fit-out was managed from concept to completion by the Select Interiors Creators + Makers team. Technical services like HVAC, extracts, ventilation, lighting and electrical to the finishes, and workshop joinery we coordinated every trade from our in-house

All bespoke joinery was crafted at our Manchester workshop, allowing us to maintain quality control and quick turnrounds. Our hands-on approach meant the founders Deborah & Mateo could visit and approve finishes and fittings before ordering and installation

As an experienced hospitality interior design team, we understand that a fit-out is more than just furniture and flooring: it’s about creating spaces that work. That’s exactly what we delivered.

Outcome

The Flat Baker now operates from a vibrant, functional unit that supports the commercial bakery and café. The vibrant mix of finishes, flooring, decoration, lighting and murals provides a ‘craft experience & feel’

The Dog & Partridge a Green King pub has been taken over by Steve Pilling restaurant entrepreneur and bon viveur best known as the former owner of Sam’s Chophouses and Damson in Heaton Moor and MediaCity.

The project was a joint venture with restaurant consultant Angus Pride Rebranded as the first ‘Terroir Pub’ under their new brand, Pilling and Pride. Interior Design by Adrian Taylor and full refurbishment by Select Interiors Ltd.

Overview

The pub offers an extensive selection of wines and whisky curated by Angus under the Terroir banner that reflect the environments in which they are grown or produced as a signifier of quality. Adrian Taylor the interior designer took the brief of Steve Pilling and produced plan layouts, elevations and design drawings as part of a competitive tender package won by Select Interiors Ltd.

Scope of Works

The project programme was five-week for refurbishment to include the following works: Demolition, mechanical, electrical, data, plaster finishes, bespoke joinery, extensive refurbishment of the Oak flooring, stone flags, lighting, signage and upholstery.

The Coffeeing The World project by Select Interiors Ltd is a remarkable transformation of a neglected corner of an industrial warehouse in North London into a sophisticated showroom for Italian Coffee Machines, combined with a Boardroom and training facility.

Overview

Miller Vanguard, the parent group, sought to establish Coffeeing The World as the UK’s leading distributor of premium commercial coffee and espresso machines. Their vision extended beyond a traditional showroom, emphasizing a multifunctional space incorporating a Boardroom, training area, and comfortable seating for a seamless customer experience. and formal meeting space with Crittall glazing and slim-line sliding screens.

Scope of Works

Design and Technical Drawings: The project began with an empty, industrial shell made of concrete and steel. The Select Interiors team handled the complete design and technical aspects, including submission to Building Control. Fit-Out:

The fit-out covered all aspects, from mechanical and electrical systems to plumbing, ventilation, and fire safety strategy. Aesthetic Elements: The space was enhanced with suspended ceilings, fire-resistant partitions, bespoke joinery, and a custom marble counter with a bar and back bars. Finishing Touches: The use of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring, acoustic cladding, and bespoke signage created a refined and welcoming environment.

Interior Design

The end product is a testament to collaborative effort and innovative design. What was once an unused, raw warehouse corner has been transformed into a fully functional and immersive showroom. Visitors can now explore and learn about the product range in a relaxed, ambient setting, with the Boardroom and training area catering to more formal business needs. and formal meeting space with Crittall glazing and slim-line sliding screens.

The Big Bakes Manchester hospitality interior design project is an ambitious spin-off of the popular Bake-Off TV series, translating its baking-focused creative energy into an immersive hospitality venue & experience. The project involved transforming a raw shell space into a flagship northern location. The youthful team & founders behind the concept have 2 venues in London and 1 in Birmingham. Big Bakes aims to create 8-10 more locations nationwide, tapping into the growing enthusiasm for interactive, experience-based leisure venues.

Design Concept and Inspiration

The building’s distinctive architecture, featuring a steel cross-bracing and diagrid façade, evokes comparisons to London’s iconic Gherkin, albeit with a more geometric vernacular. The unique structure provides a modern, industrial backdrop for the interior’s playful, creative interior, designed by the award-winning Ellis Design Studio. Known for their expertise in hospitality interiors, Ellis Design Studio worked closely with Select Interiors Creators + Makers to transform the bare concrete, glass, and steel shell into a vibrant, engaging environment conducive to both professional and amateur bakers.

Scope of Works

This hospitality interior design project’s scope encompassed both Cat A (basic building finishes) and Cat B (interior fit-out) works, all completed within a tight 14-week programme from the moment of order to handover, including the procurement of all materials and fixtures, computer access flooring, installation of access floors for ease of cabling and technology integration, mechanical, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, extract, fire strategy, lighting, steel mezzanine & Staircase, Structural addition to increase floor space and provide an elevated dining / training and events space, bespoke joinery, resin radial bar tops, custom bars, shelving, displays, and wainscot cladding, Amtico acoustic flooring hexagonal design with feature strips, hexagonal banquette seating with central tree feature, commercial kitchen & a baking marquee, fully fitted bake stations designed for a hands-on experience, central to the concept of Big Bakes.

Key Challenges

A constricted programme – The 14-week timeline from start to handover demanded efficient project management and coordination across trades. Building Control: The introduction of new regulations for mezzanine floors required adaptive design and compliance strategies. Logistics and waste management: Managing the delivery and installation of a significant volume of materials, fixtures, and fittings within a confined urban space while minimising waste and ensuring sustainability.

Big Bakes founders Adam and Eloise’s mission is to share the joy of baking with all. They envision the venue as more than just a baking space – it’s an experience designed to make baking accessible and fun for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned baker or a complete novice.

The Big Bakes fitted out by Select Interiors Ltd Creators + Makers is a testament to the power of collaboration, innovative design, and fluid project management. The transformation of a raw, industrial space into an immersive, functional, and enjoyable environment was challenging & rewarding. The Big Bakes Team have plans to expand further across the UK, & the US. Big Bakes is set to become a key player in the interactive leisure sector, offering people the chance to experience the joy of baking in a unique, engaging setting.

Working closely with the creative team at Jolie Studio, our hospitality interior designers delivered a first-class design and build package that honoured the building’s heritage while elevating its style and function. With over three decades of experience in hospitality fit-outs and commercial interior design, we completed a full renovation of this Grade II Listed manor house in only 14 weeks.

Overview

As specialists in commercial fit outs across Manchester and the UK, Select Interiors approached the project with a deep understanding of historical buildings. Every element of the fit out balanced conservation with modern comforts. The brief required a full transformation of both private and public spaces, including:

● 8 boutique bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms
● A high-end restaurant and bar
● Drawing room, lounge, and cloakroom
● Office and communal spaces
● Formal meeting room with Crittall glazing and slim-line sliding screens

The outcome is a venue that is perfect for weddings, private events, and hotel guests, all while preserving the charm and integrity of the original architecture.

Scope of Works

This fit-out combined traditional craftsmanship with modern luxury. Materials such as marble, smoked oak, wool, linen and natural stone were carefully selected to reflect the Cotswold vernacular and enhance guest comfort.

With over 34 years of experience as interior designers and commercial fit-out specialists in Manchester, we transformed a former stable and light industrial unit into a versatile hospitality venue designed for corporate events, weddings and private functions. Our approach combined heritage restoration with contemporary industrial interior design, ensuring the space reflects both its architectural roots and the expectations of a premium events venue. refurbishing the King beam arrangement and the Pitch Pine flooring

The Challenge

Originally designed by Architect Roger Stephenson, the building featured a strong industrial vernacular, including a King beam arrangement and original Pitch Pine flooring. The brief required us to respect and preserve such historic features while adapting the space for the modern hospitality industry.

As an experienced hospitality interior designer in Manchester, our challenge was to:
● Introduce more natural light without compromising the building’s character
● Restore and enhance original architectural features
● Deliver a fully functional hospitality fit-out within an eight-week programme
● Create a flexible venue suitable for weddings, corporate events and large gatherings

We introduced Velux-style roof glazing with sliding shutters and black industrial track systems, increasing daylight while reinforcing the industrial aesthetic. The refurbishment carefully restored the King beam structure and retained the original flooring to honour the building’s heritage.

Working with the design developed by Steve West of studio_néo, Select Interiors transformed this site in central Manchester into a café full of character and with a strong industrial identity. The concrete cellular ceiling and exposed columns were paired with raw steel, ribbed glass, zinc, galvanised finishes and carefully selected vintage lighting. The result is a relaxed, contemporary space that reflects Ezra & Gil’s independent personality while supporting the practical demands of a busy hospitality venue.

Overview

Located on Peter Street, close to St Peter’s Square and Deansgate, the project formed the second Ezra & Gil venue in a planned expansion across the UK.

As an experienced hospitality fit out contractor in Manchester, Select Interiors managed the detailed construction and installation programme required to turn the existing unit into a welcoming café and social space.

Interior Design

The interior design celebrates the character of the original structure rather than concealing it. Concrete ceilings and columns provide a strong architectural backdrop, while steel, zinc and galvanised finishes introduce texture and visual depth.

Ribbed glass divides areas without restricting light, helping the café remain open and spacious. Vintage-style lighting softens the harder materials and creates a warmer atmosphere throughout the customer areas.

Bespoke fabrication played an important role in giving the interior its individual character. Metal elements, glazed screens and the aluminium shopfront were produced and installed to complement the exposed concrete and industrial material palette.

Outcome

Ezra & Gil’s Peter Street café is a confident and charming hospitality space that combines raw architectural features.

The finished venue retains the honesty of its concrete structure while providing a comfortable and inviting setting for customers. Flexible glazed divisions, hard-wearing finishes and carefully integrated services also support the operational needs of the Ezra & Gil team.

From the shopfront to the cellular ceiling, every feature contributes to an interior that feels recognisable, authentic and built for the demands of a busy café in Manchester.

The Kitchens

With more than three decades of experience in hospitality interior design and commercial fit out, our team combined bespoke joinery, electrical works, lighting, resin flooring, decoration and graphics to create a distinctive destination for emerging food operators.

Overview

The Kitchens at Spinningfields brought together six independent food operators in a competition created to help promising food businesses develop from pop-up operators into established restaurant concepts.

Backed by Michael Ingall and Allied London Estates, the eventual winner would receive investment and support to develop their business. Select Interiors worked alongside Soo Wilkinson and the Allied London Estates team to translate the concept into a practical and engaging hospitality environment.

Scope of Works

The eight-week programme brought together the specialist trades and finishes required to create six individual food concepts within one destination.

Select Interiors coordinated dry lining and plastering, electrical and data installations, lighting, decoration, resin flooring, bespoke workshop and site joinery, and custom graphics. This integrated approach helped maintain quality and programme control while allowing each operator to establish an individual identity within the wider scheme.

Interior Design

Working collaboratively with Soo Wilkinson and Allied London Estates, our hospitality interior design team developed the bespoke counters, finishes and customer-facing details for the independent operators.

As experienced commercial interior designers in Manchester, we focused on layouts that supported busy food service, clear customer circulation and strong visual appeal. Durable materials and carefully considered finishes helped create spaces capable of performing in a high-footfall hospitality setting without compromising the personality of each concept.

Bespoke Joinery

Bespoke joinery formed a key part of the interior design. Select Interiors Ltd designed and produced custom counters and site joinery that supported the operational needs of each food business while giving the individual concepts their own character.

Our experience in bespoke joinery in Manchester enables us to combine workshop manufacture with skilled on-site installation, creating durable, tailored features for hospitality environments where appearance, functionality and long-term performance are equally important.

The Hospitality Fit Out

The Kitchens required a speedy and carefully coordinated hospitality fit-out in Manchester, delivered across six individual restaurant-style concepts within an eight-week programme

By bringing fit out, bespoke joinery, electrical works, flooring, decoration and graphics together within one coordinated team, Select Interiors maintained control over quality and delivery throughout the project. It reflects the joined-up approach we continue to bring to hospitality and commercial fit out projects across Manchester and the UK.

Outcome

The completed scheme created a distinctive destination where independent food operators could test, develop and grow their concepts in the heart of Spinningfields

The Kitchens later became the setting for The Million Pound Menu, hosted by Fred Sirieix, which gave emerging food businesses national exposure as they developed their concepts and entrepreneurial skills.

For Select Interiors, the project demonstrates how considered hospitality interior design and fit out can combine individual brand character with practical, hard-working spaces designed for demanding commercial use.
